North Port City Leaders Tour HCA Florida Tamiami Trail Emergency for a Preview of What is Expected in Wellen Park

City of North Port leaders Mayor Barbara Langdon and City Manager Jerome Fletcher took time to tour the HCA Florida Tamiami Trail Emergency at 150 Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte to get a preview of the freestanding emergency facility planned for Wellen Park. Watch the video for the complete story.

The newly opened 10,820 square foot facility is a part of HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week with full services including laboratory, x-rays, CT scanning and ultrasound.

HCA Florida Englewood Hospital has purchased 30 acres of land at Preto and US Highway 41 in downtown Wellen Park with plans to open a freestanding emergency center there. This will allow greater access to emergency services to the community as it grows.

“Wellen Park is one of the fastest growing areas of the city. At buildout we are estimating 65,000 people just in that community so having high-quality medical services available so close to home for those folks is a huge addition and plus for this city,” said Mayor Langdon.

City Manager Fletcher commented, “I think the facility is awesome, and the staff is awesome. It means a lot to have this new technology in our area and I believe they are going to serve a lot of people in our community well.” He continued, “Its important because the citizens of North Port near that location need the services you will provide.”

Englewood Hospital CEO Steve Young said, “We have been serving patients from South Sarasota County for more than 35 years. We are seeing a dramatic increase in patients from the Wellen Park area. Adding an emergency care center in that area will make access to services easier for people to visit and receive care near their home.
